Let’s Get Cooking! A Date Night Dinner

Join Shawnie Kelley for a lively couples cooking class in the beautiful demo kitchen at the Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany on Friday, February 12 (6:30-8PM).

Maybe the kids are gone and you have the evening alone or, perhaps, you want to share some private time together in the kitchen. Tonight’s Date Night Dinner will certainly get you cooking in one way or another. Food writer and culinary instructor, Shawnie Kelley shares a few recipes from her current cookbook project, Kissing in the Kitchen: Cook. Kiss. Eat. Love. You do not have to come with a romantic partner, but bring someone special with whom you will enjoy putting together (and eating!) a tasty creation with a paired beverage.

If food is love, then this menu will totally tickle your fancy. Upon arrival, Shawnie treats you to a special amuse-bouche, a surprise small-bite meant to tantalize your taste buds before the meal. The hand’s on class begins with a sizzling starter of seared prosciutto-wrapped goat cheese on a bed of mixed greens dressed with fruit and a vibrant balsamic dressing. A simple, yet sexy salad with a zing. We move on to a steamy entrée of seafood en Papillote (seafood cooked in parchment). Simple shellfish and pasta is elevated with a fragrant white wine tarragon sauce, which when unwrapped, not only looks really good, but also is good for you! Simmer down with a cozy, comforting dessert for two. Learn to make baked pears with a pistachio-oat crumble and sultry cardamom saffron drizzle- an unexpectedly sweet, yet earthy combination of flavors. This perfectly sweet ending calls for one dish and two forks!

Bring an apron if you so choose, as this is a hand’s on class. And please note that we will likely cook with shellfish, but reserve the right to select whatever shellfish or finfish looks the best.
