Sleep in Style aboard Vintage Railcars

You do not have to be a train enthusiast to appreciate the one-of-a-kind escape offered at Hideaway on the Hocking, 15 minutes south of Athen, Ohio. They’ve transformed colorful, vintage train cabooses into cozy cabin suites, each parked on sections of the original rail tracks that once passed by the farm. These charming cabooses feature full bathrooms, compact kitchenettes with a cooktop, and various bedroom and sleeping configurations to suit your needs. You’ll also have your own covered outdoor patio, a grill for cooking up your favorites, and a fire pit to enjoy s’mores under the stars.

For those craving even more space with a touch of history, don’t miss the c. 1890 Depot. This modern “BnB” is filled with upcycled charm—original wood walls, floors, ticket booths, benches, and sliding doors, all lovingly preserved to give you a taste of the past while enjoying the comforts of today. It’s an incredibly cool, one-of-a-kind experience. Guests may also enjoy the community space, with its fireplace and deck loungers connected to the events center, which is available for rent. We did not stay in the Caboose as it didn’t quite provide enough space for our family, but they look like a fun experience and we’ll definitely be back!
For a truly scenic stay, be sure to check out the Hideaway’s  three stunning riverfront Retreats—The Falls, The Mill, and The Bridge. Each 2-bedroom house offers its own unique charm, with distinct décor and outdoor setups, but all share the same waterfront location. With 16-foot windows that frame views of the Hocking River, you’ll feel immersed in nature. Each retreat is also equipped with a relaxing hot tub, a gas grill, and cozy patios perfect for lounging or dining al fresco. We had the pleasure of staying at The Falls, and you can read all about our experience in my article: Hideaway on the Hocking: A Springtime Rejuvenation Vacation.
