When traveling, we suggest you register all international trips with the U.S. State Department’s Smart Traveler Program. STEP’s (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program) online form allows the State Department to know where you are in the event of national security issues. Plus, they send out pre-travel alerts and updates regarding political and military problems or natural disasters in your destination country. This should be done for each member of the traveling party.

It is also wise to keep the address and contact details handy for the American Embassy to whichever country you are traveling, even if it is in a different city from where you are staying. I keep the information tucked on cards in my wallet and suitcase. The embassy could be helpful should you lose your passport or end up in a dangerous situation.

Travel smart, my friends!
