Join Shawnie Kelley on Sunday, April 12 (2PM) at Hammond Harkins Galleries in Bexley for a discussion of food in art, from the Renaissance through the twenty first century, as part of the upcoming exhibition: “Moveable Feast.”  The six-week exhibit features artists whose works utilize food as their medium or serves as the subject.  On display are works by Sarah Fairchild, Paul Hamilton, Kaveri Raina, Carol Stewart, and Sally Tharp.

Shawnie’s slideshow and lecture touches on the symbolism, cultural statements, and general food philosophies as they evolved through the centuries.  She shares images of medieval banquets, Tudor tables, Dutch still life, Edwardian eating manuals, and artistic contemporary cookbooks, while discussing the food imagery she encountered throughout her research, travels, and culinary classes.

Creative, art-inspired finger foods conjured from the brilliant mind of Julia Boyd, pastry chef at Alana’s Food and Wine, will be provided by the gallery along with drinks.

Moveable Feast is on view: March 27 through May 3, 2015

Gallery hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10 – 6, Sundays 1 – 5 / Closed Mondays

View the slideshow below to see some of the gallery’s paintings and other images that will turn up in Shawnie’s discussion.
